Identifying a Mystery Substance in Science 9

Hi my name is Reece and I'm in science class! I'm learning how to identify a mystery substance by reacting it with water, vinegar, and iodine.

Antonio (Grade 7) would like to introduce you to Rachet

In math class, we got a new pet.  He is a guinea pig and his name is Rachet. He is really small and has his own car. He is brown, black and white and has a Mohawk on his back.

The Tundra Biome in Science 10

All sorts of different animals and plants live in each biome, based on distance from the equator and proximity to a large body of water.    We have had fun making  "biomes in a baggie, bottle or box" for  different places in the world.  Brittiny - Grade 10

Professional development day!

It was off to Grande Prairie bright and early, coffee in hand, watching the beautiful sunrise. It is our turn to be students again. Which reminds us how the students feel having to listen to the same person all day.
Today I am learning about how to better use iPads in my class. There are so many things you can do on these amazing devices it can be a little overwhelming. It is nice to have "the expert" give me some ideas and weed out the good apps from the not so good ones. Half way through the day and my head is buzzing with new ideas.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Hessler

Hayden is doing his part to help other kids at Christmas time

This year the 4, 5, 6 classroom is doing Operation Christmas Child.  The class got to color, fill, and fold shoeboxes.  We enjoyed it very much.  On the 25th they will be going to Fort St. John to help make 400 more shoeboxes at the Lutheran Church basement.  I think they will enjoy it very much.  I have enjoyed the stuff we have done in our classroom.  My favorite was filling them because I got to think about what they would like and compare it with what I would like in a shoebox.

Daisy, Grade 10, LOVES books!

The Book Fair

The book fair is an annual event held at Savanna Municipal Library. It includes books for all ages, as well as posters and little things you can use to do school work like: erasers, pens, and highlighters. For those of who like to read in a different language, there is also a section of French books. If you need to keep your page, there a wide range of book marks for those of you who enjoy reading. Books that may interest early readers are the "Barbie" and "Angry Birds" books or, if there are some young adults who love to read, there is The Calling or Bewitched. For the adults there are cook books and a novel called The Host. Whatever your interest, there is something here for everyone!

Walking, Baking & Dancing

On October 1st, our school had a bake walk. Baked goods were bought and people danced to some music. It raised more than $600  for our school. Also, a Saskatchewan Rough Riders cake was dedicated to Mrs. Benson who passed away the previous Friday. We all love you Mrs. Benson!

Milestones and Passages by Mrs. Leiske

It seems like our school year is off to a great start. There is a lot of enthusiasm and great new ideas throughout the school.  Pirate day, pizza day, cake walk, school blog, Terry Fox run all have been great fun and very well supported by our school community.
My favorite part of the week is buddy reading.  This year the Grade Threes and Kindergarten class are paired up.  We incorporate Daily 5 into this time. Kindergarten students read to their big buddy and study their letters.   Grade Three students read to their Kindergarten buddy.  We also include some file folder work.  I joined a pair of boys struggling with opposites.  I was trying to model to the grade three student how to prompt the Kindergarten student to get the correct answer and I said to the student, "If you're not old you're..."  Of course he answered "Happy!"... Can't argue with that!

It was with a very heavy heart that we learned the news of Gail Benson's passing on September 27th. I wish I could have said goodbye, but the key lies therein.  Gail wasn't planning to leave.  She was planning to get well and be back at school with the children she loved.  After thirty years of serving our school and community she will be immensely missed.  I miss Gail so much already, her generosity, observations, knowledge, humor, advice, and encouragement are irreplaceable.  I will keep looking for your little red car and your blue coffee mug.  Missing you dearly…

Every year I love my group of little people and this year is no different, however, it is a bit difficult to get a group picture!

Pirate Day!
Ok,so here we, are only four staff birthdays into the school year and check out the caliber of cake! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Young for your thoughtfulness! Yikes, I didn't sign up for a birthday until June...
