More about Operation Christmas Child

Today I would like to tell you about how we went to Fort St. John to do shoeboxes On October 25th and 26th . It’s in the FSJ newspaper. We sent 547 boxes to somewhere in Africa where kids don’t have much. There were sixteen tables of stuff for the kids. There was lots and lots of flip flops. Our four, five, six class spent the night in Mr. and Mrs. Alexander’s bowling alley. We went bowling and played a game with our teddy bears before bed. The best part was all the Boyland’s pop. It was really good. Here is a picture of the newspaper article.

Hola from Puerto Vallarta

They say that you should walk a mile in another man's shoes to understand and respect him. Now, I could add, or "ride a few miles in another man's bus." Mrs. Anderson and I have been enjoying a few days in Mexico, and have been riding the buses in Puerto Vallarta quite a lot. I've  grown to admire and respect the drivers' skills in navigating the narrow streets around tight corners, and often only inches away from other vehicles.
I admit it made me quite nervous the first few trips, but I'm growing to trust the Mexican drivers more and more. I also think about how the parents and students of Savanna School put their trust in their school bus drivers. I hope that we will always live up to that trust.

See you soon,
Mr. Anderson

Another Photoshop collage for you to enjoy!

In computer class, we learned how to make a collage of images. I chose to make a collage of pictures that represent school. This activity was really fun because we learned a new technique on Photoshop.

Winter- Bailey M (Grade 9)

Winter is here now and it's not that bad so far. I really don't like snow but it's going to be here for a while. I like how everything looks in the winter, though, so it's not too bad.

Braden (grade 11) knows more than he ever thought he would about pH

In Chemistry 20 we are testing pH and pOH in class.  The pH of Beaver Buzz energy drink is 3, so the pOH is 11. The pH of Powerade is 4 so the pOH is 10.  That makes both of these acidic.

Some thoughts on the destruction in the Philippines - Joshua, grade 12

As a someone who has recently moved to Canada from the Philippines, it has been really sad to see what is happening over there. Although none of my family has been affected, it is still really upsetting to see the destruction. I really wish that we could do more to help the people that are hurt. I also wish the government in the Philippines would start helping its people. I think it's horrible that the President is doing nothing!

Evidence of Chemical Reactions - Kelsey, grade 9

Today in science we did a lab on Investigating physical and chemical changes. There were four stations. One of them was sodium carbonate and dilute hydrochloric acid. When I was at this station we found that there was a chemical change because bubbles formed. I really enjoyed doing this lab!

Junior High Girls Win Sexsmith Tournament

The Junior Girls Volleyball team travelled to Sexsmith to participate in the annual Sexsmith Sabres Smash tournament.  This was the last tournament for the year for the team.  They played outstanding volleyball and teamwork which led to the Savanna team as Champions!  The team was coached by parent volunteer Brandy Desmet and captained by Kelsey Dolen.  Kelsey was also named tournament MVP for her team at the end of the tournament.  The players showed true determination to play their best the whole time.  They lost 1 set  and rallied back to beat GP Vanier.  In the final match they played St.Pat’s from GP.  This was the first time the Savanna team won this tournament.  It was very exciting volleyball to watch the  girls improve with each game and every player brought something to the team. There was great net play and strong serving as well as good coverage on the court and communication throughout the whole team.
Congratulations girls and well done Coach!

Some scenes from Halloween...

Halloween and constellations by Kade, Grade 5

Yesterday was my Halloween party.  In the morning I carved a pumpkin and then I went to the Gym and did activities.  After lunch was the costume parade.  Then after the parade my class and I watched a movie called “The Croods”.  After the movie was over, everyone went home.

This picture is of some constellations that I created for Science because we are studying constellations and the stories that people created about them.  The Monster Spirit: One day in Olympus an evil spirit was going to destroy Zeus, but he banished him to the stats.  Ceragger the Taura was then sent up to guard the monster spirit.  Finally, Windur the Wizard did some star magic.  When a giant Cyclops came, Windur killed him then was rewarded for his efforts and upon his death his body appeared in the stars as well.
